2002-04-10 / 1:10 p.m. (waving, not drowning....) I am on my way to a company picnic for the Alternative Company (never mind that I no longer work there). But suddenly I realize that the army truck I am driving needs to have its oil changed so I stop at a service station. M. changes my oil for me but when it is time to go we realize the truck is stuck in the branches of this gigantic tree of that I have apparently driven into. Luckily there are some giant men there – real Hercules-type fellas. One of them picks up the truck beneath his arm as if picking up a stray cat and plops it safely back down on the ground (but not without turning it completely upside down first which makes me seasick even though I’m not actually in the truck at the moment.). Then this Hercules fella picks up a rollercoaster car that’s also become stuck in the tree branches and does the same for it. Merrily I go on my way to the picnic where I run into some girl I used to work with. She is going through a trough filled with water, using a pie pan to pan for gold. She’s delighted when she finds an inch-long chunk of gold but throws it back into the trough because it's supposed to be part of a picnic game. I don’t get to play the game however because I get caught up talking to my former boss D when I meet up with her in the ocean where we are both swimming by the dock. Her husband is there too. Later, while the picnic continues onshore, I am just content to swim beneath surface watching legs anchor down the bodies of people who’s heads bob above the waves. last night ... tonight |
